Alex Casteneda

Alex Castañeda was born on June 21, 1985 in Lima, Peru. He started his art career in 2003 at the Universidad de Las Americas Puebla, in Puebla, Mexico, where he studied one year before returning to his home land of Peru in 2004. Once there, he entered the fine arts school Corriente Alterna and graduated in 2009. Later, in 2013, he continued his studies at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art.

Alex Castañeda’s work varies from 10 foot oil on canvas paintings to oil painted wooden skateboards and ongoing freelance work as a CG illustrator. Most of his work is based on the human body — from female nudes on skateboards to women and monsters on large canvases. These larger pieces demonstrate the influence of his academic background and his love of classical artists. Influences of the old masters like John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Zorolla, and Anderns Zorn shine through in these works. He also touches on local political themes, often confronting issues like corruption and abuse of authority.
